Angelica Heritage Days Set for August 1-2 Weekend

Angelica's annual Heritage Days celebration is scheduled for August 1-2, 2026, bringing the historic village's Main Street to life with community festivities. The event follows closely on the heels of Angelica's 18th annual Lavender Festival, held July 4, 2026, which drew more than 100 vendors along with food, music and downtown merchants. Organizers have also installed a new welcome sign for visitors as part of the village's push to promote itself to tourists. Heritage Days is one of the signature annual gatherings for the small Allegany County village, known for its Park Circle Historic District.

Angelica Electric Pauses Disconnections as Winter Bills Spike

The village-owned Angelica Electric utility said it would temporarily halt service disconnections until summer 2026 after customers saw bills double or triple their normal cost during January and February. Officials attributed the spike to statewide factors outside the utility's control, including rising electricity demand, reduced generation capacity, high natural gas prices and a stretch of extreme cold weather that pushed grid costs to record highs. Mayor Claypool addressed residents directly on local radio to explain the situation and encourage anyone struggling to pay to contact the village office for payment arrangements or HEAP emergency assistance through Allegany County. The utility expected rates to ease once the temporary market conditions passed in spring.
